My mom wasn't feeling well yesterday and because of her recent surgery, we decided to take her to the emergency room at Scarborough Grace to get her checked out.
We arrived at 6:30pm and checked in at the nurses desk.
At 10:30pm we were still sitting in the waiting room, waiting to see a doctor.
Turns out all the beds in the emergency room were full and the patients in them were waiting to be moved to other beds in other departments throughout the hospital.
Until that was done, no one was moving.
Not even those that were brought in by ambulance.
At one point there were six ambulance's parked in the bay, trapped because they could not leave the patients they had just delivered until they could find a bed in the emergency department.
At 10:30pm after we had waited 4 hours we were told that it could be 2, 4 or even 6 more hours before we might be able to see a doctor.
My mom was in no condition to sit there for another couple of hours.
We left.
Thankfully my mom was feeling much better this morning and didn't feel the need to return.
At no point did anyone contact her from the hospital to see why she had left or how she was doing.
How's that for health care efficiency?
