How Well Do You Know Your Canadian Politics?

After last month's political crisis in Ottawa, when a coalition of opposition parties threatened to topple Prime Minister Stephen Harper's minority government, it was clear that the average Canadian was interested in what was going on, but did they really understand what had transpired?

A story in Today's Toronto Sun claimed that many Canadians lacked the basic knowledge of Canadian history and it's political system to form an informed opinion about what transpired.

To prove their point the Dominion Institute came up with these four questions
  • Who is the head of state?
  • How can Canada's system of government best be described?

  • Do Canadians elect the prime minister directly?

  • Can the governor general nix a PM's request for a new election?

  • and the bonus question ... What does "prorogue" mean?

I personally think that Canadians are smarter then the Dominion Institute gave us credit for. I got all of these questions correct. See how well you do. Answers, tomorrow.
