This just in from Erik Thomas in his Raceline Radio Newsletter...
"Seems every day we’re asked about Paul Tracy. So I called him at home. PT was doing laundry. As far from piloting a 220 plus MPH IndyCar as you can get. You’ll hear the conversation April 7th. He’s stalled, battery flat. He sits and waits. Frustrating.
The “Thrill from West Hill” was caught out, to use a racing term, when the IRL gobbled up ChampCar. The new era of Open Wheel IndyCar racing began in Florida without one of the prime marketable entertainers. Reason? Yes, all the plum assignments had already been filled, but what’s really holding him back from even investigating a ride with anyone else at this point is his personal services contract with former team and ChampCar co-owner Gerald Forsythe.
Even though Forsythe is not operating an IRL team, PT’s contract with Forsythe prohibits other assignments or attempts to generate same. Paul can’t even reach Forsythe to see what could be worked out to break the bonds of the contract. Why would someone who’s not racing hold back someone who races? Ah, there’s the mystery. Paul also now knows he doesn’t even have that one last ride with Forsythe-Pettit Racing at Long Beach, the last hurrah for the old World series and The Panoz DP-01 Turbo. They’ve given his seat to Mexican David Martinez. Paul Tracy’s being paid very well to do laundry and that ain’t good. PT has more details next week on Raceline Radio."
