My Mom

It has been quite the roller coaster of emotions the last 2 months or so.
As some of you may know, my mother found out she had cancer this past July and had surgery on August 12th to remove the cancer from her stomach. The surgery went about as bad as it could get. Instead of removing the cancer from her stomach, they ended up having to remove her entire stomach because the cancer had spread so much. The prognosis was bleak and she ended up in ICU for a week, instead of recovering upstairs on the ward as we had all expected.
The doctors made her a new stomach by creating a pouch in her esophagus and attaching it to her lower bowel, (one of the biggest surgeries that this hospital performs apparently). The doctors also expected to find more cancer after taking biopsies from other parts of her body.
The first couple of days in ICU was tough, but after a few days they slowly began removing the various tubes she was attached to. First to her relief was the breathing tube and then a couple of days later when she was finally well enough to go upstairs to a ward, they began removing her other tubes (catheter, feeding tubes and pain medication), until finally there was none.
My mom got back the results of her biopsies yesterday and to every ones great surprise and relief, there was no other cancer cells found anywhere on her body.
It looks like the caught it in time.
My mom was released from hospital yesterday and is now on the long road to recovery.
Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and warm thoughts, it was greatly appreciated.
If you have a minute, give her a call or stop by, (just be sure to call first), I'm sure she would be glad to hear from you.
